My name is Jon Arendt and I’m currently pursuing a Certificate in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) at College of DuPage (COD). To obtain my certificate, I’m completing a capstone project that I think may be able to help business in town.
What I’m doing…
For my project, I’m proposing a geographic analysis of Clarendon Hills business customers. I intend to gather relevant geographic data for analysis. At this point, I can’t predict what the data will yield, but some data areas I’m pursuing would help
with:
· Identifying where shoppers and diners in Clarendon Hills are traveling from.
· Identifying timing of visits.
· Uncovering travel routes of visitors.
How this could benefit you…
What could this information potentially be used for?
· Identifying cross marketing opportunities within and between businesses.
· Identify geographic targets for online
and offline marketing.
· Wayfinding/signage improvements.
· Maximizing parking utilization.
· Understanding carry-out vs. delivery vs. on-premise transactions.
What is my ask of you…
Can you provide me with anonymized customer and transaction data?
Any data I can get would be
appreciated, but the more I can get, the better. If you have a POS (e.g. Square, Clover, Toast), loyalty, or CRM system, you should be able to export some amount of data. (I would be happy to assist if you have any challenges with that.) I do not want the names, phone numbers, or email addresses of your customers. I’d prefer addresses to more precisely identify locations, but ZIP Code would be acceptable. Examples of data that might be of interest include:
timestamps of transactions, carry-out/delivery/on-premise, category of sale (food, alcohol, clothing, hairstyling, fitness services, auto repair, auto sales, flowers, etc.).
What is the timing…
I would like to
intake all data as soon as possible and will try to incorporate any data that comes in through March 2023.
I intend to perform my analysis and provide a final readout in late April to early May to all participants!
